N.W.E.A. Testing this week!!

Hello Parents,

Please help your children get plenty of rest this weekend.  I know it is tempting to let them stay up later then normal on the long weekends, however, we have N.W.E.A. testing starting on Wednesday and we will need all your children well rested to stay focused through the day.

We are signed up for the afternoon sessions on the computers for the three days of testing.  The sections of tests include:  Math, Reading and Language.  Each test can run any where from an hour to two hours in length.  This is the first time your children will take standardize tests in their schooling experience.  The results will be shared with you at report card conferences this fall.

Please help by fueling your children with a healthy breakfast and sending a healthy snack each day.

Due to the testing, we will not have a spelling list or a test on Friday.

We will be starting Weekly Math Homework

Hello Parents,

We will be starting weekly homework on Tuesday, September 4.  Each Tuesday I will send home a Math Spiral Review that is 2-sided.  The homework reviews skills used in Second Grade and includes concepts currently being taught.  The homework should be turned in by Friday along with the Arrowhead Envelope with your initals showing that you have viewed the contents inside.

If we have a short week with Friday off, please send it on Monday.  However, if it is a holiday vacation with multiple days of no school,  or a Special Testing Week (like this week), I will not send homework for the week.

Please use our online Math book as a resource to help with vocabulary and concepts while doing the homework.  Here is the link needed:  ONLINE Math textbook for 3rd Grade
I will send home your child's log-in information along with the homework this week.

Please also use the following website as a resource with Math vocabulary it also gives picture examples to help explain concepts:  http://www.amathsdictionaryforkids.com/dictionary.html

Thank you so much for helping your child build study habits that will help them prepare for the rest of their school years.

Tuesday Packets

Hello Parents,

Inside the Tuesday Packets, there should be a copy of your child's Spelling for the week written in their own handwriting so they may study for the Friday tests.
If for some reason we are skipping a week of spelling, due to no school days or testing, I will try to post the change on my blog.  I will also try to update my blog by Sunday so you can get the list ahead if you want to squeeze out a few minutes of practice before the week.

Please initial the outside of the Tuesday Envelope so I know you have looked through the papers sent home each week.  Then, please send back the envelope to be refilled.

Book Orders will also come home inside Tuesday folders around the last week of the month and they are due the next week.  I have added a sticker to the top of each packet of book orders that mentions the due date and the online option if that works for you.  I have a link on the right hand side of my blog you can click on and it should take you straight to the website.
When we get closer to the gift giving season, if you would like a special book ordered, but held onto for a gift later, please shoot me an email so I can try and keep it a surprise. : )

Drop off & Picking up at school

Hello Parents!

We have had a new development with the busing this year.  Due to the added bus that will be at our school, drop off in the loop will need to wait until the buses leave.  Our original plan on Monday night was to have 3rd grade exit the building and walk around to the parking lot side of the building and then meet parents at the flag pole.
However, after conversations with parents about having younger siblings that need to wait for the 3rd graders, we have decided to have the children exit on the 1st & 2nd grade side so hopefully this will make finding the other siblings a bit easier.

Healthy Snacks Every Day

Hello Parents,

We encourage your children to pack a healthy snack each day to school.  We will have snack time about 9:15 each day to help your child's focus last throughout the morning.  Please do not send anything that needs refrigeration.

If your child would like to bring birthday treats, please send enough for 26 people in our room.
We have a few children with food allergies.  Please do not send any birthday treats for the class that include nuts or popcorn.

Thank you!
